Department of Engineering DING The Department of Engineering at the University of Sassari is a technological and research hub that integrates education, innovation, and knowledge transfer both locally and internationaly. Through its various research groups, it supports local enterprises, attracts expertise, and promotes the development of new technologies.The Department is founded on a faculty of proven experience and international recognition, and a guarantee of quality in both research and education. Its scientific and teaching activities rely on a network of established research groups of excellence, globally connected, which constitute a strategic infrastructure for the growth of the engineering sector.Alongside its active research groups, the Department is progressively developing new multidisciplinary structures to address challenges of major social significance, including health, communications, industrial and civil safety, with particular attention to techniques artificial intelligence and robotics.The Research Groups of the DepartmentRehabilitation Bioengineering Laboratory (LaBiRia)LaBiRia integrates methodological expertise and innovative tools for motor rehabilitation assessment, monitoring, and intervention. It employs technologies for the analysis of human movement and virtual reality, and is engaged in a bilateral Italy–USA project with the Veterans Affairs Center and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, aimed at the recovery of motor functions through robotics.Computer Vision Laboratory (CVLab)CVLab conducts advanced research in artificial intelligence, computer vision, robotics, and biometrics, with a focus on approaches approaches inspired by biological systems. It is equipped with imaging, biometric, and 3D technologies, and collaborates with leading institutions such as MIT, Johns Hopkins University, Michigan State University, the Chinese Academy of Science, IIT, IDEMIA, and Thales. It has been an international reference center for biometrics for over twenty years.Materials Science and Nanotechnology Laboratory (LMNT)LMNT is dedicated to the study of materials and nanomaterials, with applications in nanotechnology. Equipped with advanced instrumentation, it supports research, education, and industrial innovation. For the past twenty years, it has been part of an international network of laboratories active in the field of nanoscience.
