This section outlines the procedures for welcoming international students and staff to the Department of Engineering. The University of Sassari manages incoming mobility centrally through specific online platforms, but the Department plays a crucial role in academic validation and support.

Incoming Students: Mobility for Study (SMS)

Target Group: Students from partner universities (Erasmus+ or Bilateral Agreements) attending courses for 1 or 2 semesters.

A. Procedures

  • Nomination (Step 1): The Partner University must officially nominate the student by sending an email to aselis@uniss.it.
  • Application (Step 2): Once nominated, the student receives a code to access the UNISS application portal.
  • Registration: The student must register on the University’s "Self Studenti" portal (Esse3).

B. Critical Deadlines

| 1st Semester / Full Year | June 15 | June 30 |

| 2nd Semester | December 1 | December 15 |

Note: Late registrations are generally not accepted.

C. Academic Requirements

  • Learning Agreement (LA): Must be signed by the student, the home university, and the Department responsible Prof. Ugo Della Croce and Hossein Cheraghi Bidsorkhi.
  • Course Catalogue: Incoming students must select courses from the Engineering Department’s offerings.

D. Academic & Grading System

  • Grading Scale: UNISS uses a 0-30 scale. The passing grade is 18. Maximum is 30 e lode (cum laude).
  • Credits: 1 CFU (Credito Formativo Universitario) = 1 ECTS.
  • Transcript of Records: Issued by the International Office at the end of the stay, detailing exams passed and ECTS credits.

Incoming Students: Mobility for Traineeship (SMT)

Target Group: Students wishing to carry out a research internship or lab placement in the Department.

A. Procedures

  • Nomination: The Partner University sends the nomination to dellacro@uniss.ithcheraghi@uniss.it, and interdesk@uniss.it.
  • Timing: There are no fixed deadlines for traineeships; applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
  • Departmental Role: Prof. Ugo Della Croce and Hossein Cheraghi Bidsorkhi must identify a Tutor/Supervisor within the Engineering Department who agrees to supervise the student's work.

B. Specific Program: "Erasmus Traineeship in Sardinia"

  • What it is: A specific partnership between UNISS and local bodies (Provincia, Comune, Camera di Commercio).
  • Eligibility: Open to students with an Erasmus+ Traineeship grant from their home university.
  • Selection: Based on CV and interview (Skype, or…).
  • Specific Benefits:
    • Matriculation as a UNISS student (access to libraries, Wi-Fi).
    • Free Italian Language Course (at CLA).
    • Insurance Coverage: Civil liability and accident insurance provided by UNISS.
    • Access to university canteens (Mensa ERSU) at reduced rates.

Incoming Visiting Professors & Staff

Target Group: International faculty for teaching (STA) or training (STT).

A. Erasmus+ Teaching Staff (STA)

  • Funding: Provided by the home university.
  • Procedure: The visiting teacher must contact the International Office (flangiu@uniss.it) and have an invitation from the Engineering Department.
  • Requirement: A "Mobility Agreement for Teaching" signed by the Department Director or Delegate.

B. UNISS Visiting Professor Program

  • Funding: Funded by UNISS/Region of Sardinia through specific calls (Bandi).
  • Procedure:
    • The University publishes an annual Call for Applications (Bando Visiting Professor).
    • Departments must submit proposals for "Short Stays" or "Long Stays" based on specific research/teaching needs (e.g., similar to previous calls for "Landscape Ecology" or "Machine Learning").
    • Selection is via comparative evaluation of CVs.

International Credit Mobility (ICM - KA171)

Target Group: Mobility with countries outside the EU (Non-associated third countries).

  • Scope: Incoming Study, Traineeship, Teaching (STA), and Training (STT).
  • Procedure: Partner universities nominate candidates based on the specific project agreement.
  • Departmental Action: Faculty members interested in opening a new exchange channel with a non-EU country must submit a proposal during the Internal Call.
  • Internal Call Deadline (Reference): For the 2026 Call, the internal deadline for proposals is January 16, 2026.

Blended Intensive Programs (BIP)

Target Group: Short-term mobility groups combining physical and virtual learning.

  • Structure:
    • Physical Mobility: 5 to 30 days.
    • Virtual Component: Mandatory (collaborative online learning).
  • Credits: Must award at least 3 ECTS to students.
  • Funding:
    • Students: €79/day (Days 1-14), €56/day (Days 15-30).
    • Staff: Funded via Erasmus+ STT (Staff Training) rules.

Essential Support Services

Incoming students and staff are supported by the following central services:

  • Visa & Universitaly: Mandatory for Non-EU students (Deadlines ~Nov 30 for visas but check specific year regulations).
  • Italian Language Courses (CLA): Free courses offered by the University Language Centre.
  • Accommodation (ERSU): Limited places in student halls (approx. 30 spots reserved for international students). Priority given to long stays.
  • Welcome Office: Located at Largo Sisini/Piazza Università.
